Overview

Chevening Youth Hub is an independent, Chevening alumni-led non-profit initiative affiliated with EduRise for Development and operating within its institutional umbrella.

The Hub works to empower young people across fragile and conflict-affected contexts by strengthening their knowledge, capabilities, leadership and participation, while creating opportunities for learning, connection and positive social impact.

Its work is organised around four interconnected areas: Capacity Building, Peace & Stability, Strong Communities, and Social Justice & Equity. Through these areas, the Hub develops and supports initiatives that respond to the educational, professional and community realities facing young people in conflict-affected contexts.

The Hub brings together young people, Chevening alumni and scholars, professionals, practitioners and partners to share knowledge and experience, strengthen youth capabilities and contribute to more resilient, inclusive and connected communities.

Why It Matters

Young people in fragile and conflict-affected contexts often navigate complex barriers that extend beyond access to education or employment. Conflict, displacement, institutional fragility, limited professional networks and unequal access to opportunities can affect their ability to develop their potential and participate meaningfully in their communities.

At the same time, young people are not simply beneficiaries of development. They are leaders, professionals, volunteers, innovators and community actors with the potential to contribute to positive and lasting change.

Chevening Youth Hub seeks to create an enabling environment where young people can strengthen their capabilities, access knowledge and networks, develop leadership and professional skills, and engage with issues affecting their communities.

By connecting youth development with capacity building, peace and stability, stronger communities, and social justice and equity, the Hub aims to support young people not only in advancing their own journeys, but also in contributing meaningfully to the communities around them.

Our Objectives

  1. Strengthen young people's knowledge, skills and capabilities through learning, mentoring, professional development and practical opportunities.

  2. Develop youth leadership and participation by creating spaces where young people can learn, contribute, collaborate and take meaningful roles within their communities.

  3. Expand access to education, scholarships, professional guidance and knowledge for young people facing barriers in fragile and conflict-affected contexts.

  4. Support peaceful, resilient and connected communities by encouraging dialogue, civic participation, collaboration and youth engagement.

  5. Promote social justice, equity and inclusion by strengthening awareness, amplifying underrepresented perspectives and supporting more equitable access to opportunities.

  6. Connect young people with alumni, scholars, professionals and organisations able to contribute knowledge, experience, mentorship and professional expertise.

  7. Encourage locally responsive and youth-informed approaches that recognise the different realities, priorities and aspirations of communities affected by conflict and fragility.

What We Do

Chevening Youth Hub works through four interconnected areas of focus, each addressing an important dimension of youth and community development.

Capacity Building

We equip young people with knowledge, leadership and professional skills that can strengthen their educational, personal and career pathways.

Activities include mentoring and guidance, scholarship support, professional development, knowledge-sharing, practical experience and initiatives such as the MASAR Programme, which connects young people with structured pathways for guidance, experience and learning.

Peace & Stability

We seek to strengthen the ability of young people to contribute positively to dialogue, social cohesion, resilience and peaceful communities.

Through learning, engagement and knowledge exchange, the Hub encourages young people to recognise their role as contributors to constructive dialogue and positive change within conflict-affected contexts.

Strong Communities

We support approaches that encourage community participation, collaboration, resilience and social connection.

By connecting young people with one another and with professionals, alumni, organisations and wider networks, the Hub seeks to strengthen the relationships, knowledge and participation that help communities respond to challenges from within.

Social Justice & Equity

We promote fairness, inclusion and equitable access to opportunity, with particular attention to the barriers experienced by young people in fragile and conflict-affected contexts.

Our work seeks to strengthen awareness, encourage meaningful participation, amplify underrepresented perspectives and create pathways through which young people can access knowledge, opportunities and networks.

Who We Work With

Young people are at the centre of Chevening Youth Hub's work, particularly young women and men from fragile and conflict-affected contexts seeking to strengthen their education, leadership, professional development and contribution to their communities.

The Hub also works with and engages:

  • Chevening alumni and scholars who share knowledge, experience and insights from their academic and professional journeys.

  • Professionals and practitioners who contribute specialist knowledge, mentoring and professional expertise.

  • Youth leaders and volunteers who contribute to community-based and youth-led activities.

  • Educational institutions and academics interested in education, knowledge exchange and youth development.

  • Civil society organisations and community actors working on issues relevant to young people and conflict-affected communities.

  • Partners and institutions interested in supporting sustainable, locally responsive approaches to youth development.

This model allows the Hub to connect young people's aspirations and lived realities with knowledge, experience, networks and collaborative opportunities.

Where We Work

Chevening Youth Hub focuses on young people from seven fragile and conflict-affected contexts across the Middle East and North Africa.

Its current geographic reach includes young people connected to:

  • Yemen

  • Syria

  • Palestine

  • Iraq

  • Libya

  • Sudan

  • Lebanon

The Hub uses a digitally enabled and community-based model that allows knowledge, mentoring, professional engagement and collaboration to cross geographic boundaries.

While sharing a regional vision, the Hub recognises that each context is different. Its approach therefore seeks to remain responsive to local realities rather than applying a single model across different communities.

Impact & Results

Over two years, Chevening Youth Hub has developed an expanding regional community through guidance, capacity building, professional development, knowledge-sharing and youth engagement.

Verified figures currently reported by the Hub include:

  • 230+ young people guided through activities supporting their understanding of Chevening, essay development, interview preparation and confidence-building.

  • 1,450+ young people reached through knowledge-sharing activities covering education, leadership, scholarships, career readiness, health, wellbeing and professional development.

The Hub's impact is not measured only through participation figures. Individual journeys demonstrate how access to knowledge, guidance, practical experience, professional networks and community support can contribute to young people's educational and professional development.

As the Hub continues to develop, it is strengthening its approach to impact tracking and learning to better understand both quantitative results and the experiences of the young people and communities engaged through its work.

Connect. Inspire. Impact.
